Can we increase the length of the thread titles to be longer than the whiskers of a hamster?

European or African?

Not easily…

Shorten your title. As some French philosopher or other said, "I apologize for writing such a long letter. I didn't have time to write a short one."

I have had to shorten my titles many times. It was mainly because I didn't have the wit to write it shorter.

Writing concise subjects is an art we all should cultivate.

Think of a subject as searchable keywords strung together with minimum grammar.

If you post some examples of subjects too long to fit, we can help by suggesting shorter versions that convey the same content.

Title space should be longer.

Title box should only hold the number of characters we are allowed to use in a title.

We go to the Moon not because it's easy, but because it's hard.

My quote above was from Pascal. Or Mark Twain. Or Cicero. Or Iron Man.

I do agree that the space allowed for the title is deceptive. There is too much space given, and if you fill it, you get an error message.

Well, how many characters are acceptable?

We go to the Moon not because it's easy, but because it's hard.

We haven't been to the moon in over four decades.

Title box should only hold the number of characters we are allowed to use in a title.

No. Doing this requires exerting a huge level of control over the code that reduces compatibility.

Example: I don't use a fixed-width font on my browser. To make the box fit the character limit, you either have to force a specific font style or make the size of the box change when you hit a letter. Either of these things reduce my choices for which platform and how I view TMP.

For what it's worth, the limit is 30 characters.

And this is a problem because?

Read the next sentence.

Either of these things reduce my choices for which platform and how I view TMP.

Any method for forcing that type of consistency reduces user control and ubiquity.

Great War Ace05 Sep 2016 8:26 a.m. PST

30 characters, ahah, the same limit imposed on user names. I see a consistency here….
