In response to reports by Col. Wingate's spies, several units of the Camel Corps have been ordered to reconnoiter the Ras al Ghul wells, 50 miles SW of Korosko.

link

Two companies of British infantry and one of Egyptian, supported by one Gatling gun and one mountain gun, crewed by members of the Naval Brigade, and one squadron of British lancers, approach the wells.

link

With the wells in sight, several cavalry vedettes come galloping back to the main column!

link

Col. Westlake orders the column to quickly close up and form square. He orders the cavalry to cover the northern approach.

What did the cavalry scouts see?
In the distance, standards of the Khalifa are being raised at the Ras Al Ghul wells. It seems Col. Wingate's spies were correct about a Mahdist incursion into southern Egypt!

Coming soon, the Mahdists attack!

Very nice. May I ask what scale and the maker of the miniatures?

That's a lot of camels.

Hi Chris, the British and Egyptian Camel Corps, mounted and dismounted, are Gallia miniatures, available from Warrior Miniatures. The Naval Brigade figures are Peter Pig. I *think* the baggage camels are also Gallia but I'm not sure. I've got a lot of baggage animals from several different manufacturers. The Mahdist standard bearers are a mixture of Gallia, Peter Pig and Mike's Models. Gallia and Peter Pig are what I would describe as "true 15mm." They're great little figures. Warrior Miniatures provides terrific customer service as does Brookhurst Hobbies, from whom I obtained the Peter Pig figures. The British lancers are Mike's Models. All of the figures, except the lancers, were painted by the wonderful artists at Fernando's in Sri Lanka. Speaking of whom, also give great customer service. The lancers I bought second hand and were already painted.

Looking good!

Look forward to the AAR

Thanks Wayne. I am impressed with the models. I am debating my own foray into the Sudan and am unsure whether to go with a 15mm line or Perry 28mm.

15mm is cheaper, as long as you don't go too crazy on your figure ratio… Though then you need to paint all the little blighters.

Lion makes a great point. And you can always have bigger battles, more 'toys on table' with 15's. Decades ago I had some Zulu 15's but wasnt really gaming so.. (long gone).

Now I have 90 Zulu's, (60 completed) of 'former' WF's 28's. I love painting them. The British were a bit intimidating ,as the hand/eyes arent as steady as they were, and getting that webbing 'sharp n clean' not as easy any more.

Guess my comp is just too old, cant open the link.. just goes to Flicker but then locks. bummer
