So what Vallejo color do you paint your US paras & gliders at Normandy? Everywhere is different – including the FoW web article and DDay -1 book. For the paras, some say Khaki or a mix of Khaki and green-gray. Sometimes I find recommendations for Middlestone. As for the gliders trousers, DDay-1 suggests Field Drab – which doesn't look dark enough for me. I have also seen suggestions for English Uniform. The Osprey book I have has them a pretty dark brown. I know all the arguments about inconsistent color dyes, fading from field use, use what you want, etc. Just wondering what others are using? Looking for 82nd generally (and for gliders) and 507th specifically for paras, to the extent that matters, for Normandy. |

I do the Vallejo Green Gray and Khaki 50/50 mix for my 82nd, the 508th specifically for me. Honestly though, it's absolutely maddening that Vallejo do a million and one different colors but don't do a straight 'US Airborne' paint. |

Couldn't agree more It also drives me nuts that they have a color "German Uniform" that isn't the color of German uniforms. |

I've started to move towards paints like lifecolour, Mig and AK interactive, they have several pretty solid colours for various uniforms. |

I have used Iraqi Sand, Khaki mixed with Buff, Citadel Zandri dust mixed with either VMC Buff or Beige, Citadel Karak Stone mixed with VMC Buff or Beige. These mixes will give you a yellowish tone to the uniform, which I like. I have not been able to come up with the slight greenish tone that you often see as well. Not sure exactly which were used in Normandy, or if both were, but some of the photo books I have show the yellowish toned so I went with it! |
