Here's an extract from notes on the M7 Priest gun….. "Its main gun was a 105 mm howitzer that could fire high explosive HE shells 7 miles (11.27 km). As you can see from the photograph below the M7 Priest was also fitted with a 0.50 inch (12.7mm) M2 Browning Machine gun in the pulpit. The Priest could carry 69 shells. Some of these would be smoke rounds and a few armour piercing rounds for close protection if they were surprised by an enemy tank." I was not aware that these carried AP rounds… is it true ? Ta |

I know that notes to British WE tables sometimes specified anti-tank rounds in Field Regts. The one used by British units equipped with M7s in 3rd (Br) Div for the assault landing in Normandy said guns would carry 69 rounds, which may include 12 rounds atk HE. Cdn WE says the same. I don't know whether the same applied to US Fd Arty units? Gary |

Not AP rounds. The 105 on the Priest could fire shell HEAT M67 rounds. Not sure how many they would typically carry. |
