Hello,

I recently finished painting up a bunch of figures with New York shell jackets. Used (re-used?) original Old Glory figures. Began with Rebel figures, so I could have the shell jacket and high collar. Added epaulets with paper and superglue. Filled in the top of the caps with superglue to make them look more like forage caps instead of kepis. Painted duplicate flags and command stands. By switching out the command stands I can have either the Irish Brigade or generic New York regiments. Add a regiment with a Massachusetts state flag, and I have the Irish brigade at Antietam.

Exceptional work

What (or who) did you use for your flags? They seem awfully shiny compared to the figures who have excellent highlights and shading.

I love Old Glory ACW 15's – one of their greatest ranges ever.

Beautiful figures. One thing to watch out for with Old Glory ACW figures is that the flag staffs can tend to break right above the upper hand. I have had to replace a few over the years.

Thank you for the kind words.

davbenbak, I make my own flags. I have my own system. Flags that are silk I print with a laser printer. I know, the gloss is probably a little overdone at this scale, but that doesn't bother me. Flags that are cotton bunting, like most Confederate flags, I print on inkjet printers. That leaves a matt finish. I've also printed on laser printers and over-sprayed with Grumbacher matt finish, which doesn't yellow with age.

BrianW, I already replace all the lead/pewter flag poles with brass rod. Sturdy, and saves me the trouble of having to do it in the future.

Well then, in that case you're way ahead of me in that regard. Many of my guys still have the bendy poles, and I only replace them as they break.
