Does anyone have data for the average daily miles the different nations marched while campaigning? |

Several officers of the period put together data. Scharnhorst has march rates in his Officers' Military Field Pocketbook.' link |

The average march length in the Grande Armee was fifteen miles/day and the marches usually varied between ten and 22 miles/day. The heat of the day was usually avoided, marches beginning early and ending early. Forced marches would lengthen the distance, but would not increase the pace, to between 30 and 35 miles a day. On night marches when not in the presence of the enemy, the troops liked to carry lighted candles. There was always planning for stragglers, where to pick them up and how they were to be brought forward. |

A lot depends on the commander, theater and the terrain. Suvorov for instance was noted for his quick marches. Schwarzenberg was notoriously slow. Kevin gives a good general guide above. |
