The 100th anniversary of the US National Parks got me thinking. What are the best parks that people have visited? And I think we can be generous with the definition.

I'll start the list:

Yosemite – US
Connemara – Ireland
Iguazu – Brazil/Argentina/Paraguay

Cerdic25 Aug 2016 1:23 p.m. PST

Norman Park in Bromley, SE London. Only because it was filled with 3000 classic cars at the time….

John Armatys25 Aug 2016 1:51 p.m. PST

The Botanical Gardens, Sheffield

Thomas O25 Aug 2016 1:54 p.m. PST

Grand Canyon – US
Rocky Mountain National Park – US
Yellowstone – US

Excluding Battlefields (and not all NPS sites);

Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty
Central Park NYC
Bandolier Canyon NM
Chaco Canyon NM (both of these have amazing Native American Ruins.)
Hyde Park, London
Pikes Peak
Carlsbad Caverns
Mount Vernon

Just a few but this list is far from inclusive.

Zion
Grand Teton
Glacier National
Denali
Black Canyon of the Gunnison
Yosemite
Yellowstone

But, for shear jaw dropping awe – The Grand Canyon

Been to a majority of the Natl Parks and just came back from Glacier. It is the most impressive and I was just in Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone last year.

WarWizard25 Aug 2016 3:39 p.m. PST

If you get to visit only 1 park – make it Yellowstone. I have been to Glacier, Yosemite and others, but nothing compares to Yellowstone.

JimDuncanUK25 Aug 2016 3:45 p.m. PST

Yellowstone blows everything away … or it will do one day.

Great Smokey Mountains, especially along the AT

Noble Crow25 Aug 2016 7:52 p.m. PST

Another nod to hiking the AT through the Smokies. Good Ol' Rocky Top!

Chris Wimbrow25 Aug 2016 8:17 p.m. PST

It's The Great Smoky Mountains.

No 'e' in Smoky.

Smokies as a plural, or a baseball team, no problem.

Smokey the preventer of wildfires, Smokey the bluetick coonhound mascot of the University of Tennessee, fine.

Chris Wimbrow25 Aug 2016 8:29 p.m. PST

The only time I remember seeing a comet was in the late 60s at the Spence Field shelter. Away from any city lights, it was amazing.

PrivateSnafu25 Aug 2016 8:42 p.m. PST

Maroon Bells Wilderness, Colorado
Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario

Yellowstone is cool but I like the Wind Rivers better.

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP26 Aug 2016 5:24 a.m. PST

Grand Canyon
Saratoga
Gettysburg
Bryce Canyon
Arches
Guildford Couthouse
Iquazu

Florida Tory26 Aug 2016 9:14 a.m. PST

Yellowstone – first and best
Redwood National and State Parks
The Everglades
John Pennekamp State Park – the park is an underwater coral reef

Waiotapu – almost every geothermic feature of Yellowstone, in a compact, walkable area
Maungatautari (Sanctuary Mountain) – incredible virgin forest sanctuarymountain.co.nz

Parc Güell – one look at Gaudí's architecture, and you understand where Dr. Sues got his inspiration

Banff National Park

Can I chime in with another vote for Denali?

Don't forget the parks on the island of Hawai'i! Hawai'i Volcanoes and Pu'uhanua o Honaunau
