A situation arose that's clearing up

A Melee resulted in a unit retreating 2bw but this ment the unit passed though an artillery behind it but not clearing it

Doses the unit pass though the rear and the artillery and isn't effected by the retreat
And also dose the winner have to follow up 1bw

The retreating unit passes to the rear of the artillery with nbo effect on the arty. Follow up is optional and may not end in contact with an enemy unit

The rule you're looking for is on page 65 "Retreat Distance", specifically:
"2BW is the minimum retreat distance that a retreating unit must move. If a unit ends its retreat 'sitting on' a friendly unit, then it must keep retreating until it finds space. As soon as it does, then it ends its retreat there."

Follow up (actually "Advance") is optional for victorious units unless you have the impetuous trait in which case it's mandatory. See page 62
