Does anyone know who made this painting? And when?

I'm not even sure of the topic, other than it's clearly a late 17th C. Dutch fleet. The artistic style looks very 19th C., especially the interpretation of ship's lines, but could date as far back as the mid-18th C., and might even be modern (post WWII).

I don't know who the artist is, but I am sure it is from no earlier than the latter 19th century, maybe first half of the 20th century. Because of the subject, the artist might well be Dutch. So far as I can make out from such a small scale image, the artist seems pretty competent on technical detail.

It's actually a decently sized image, rescaled down by TMP. Right click the image and choose "View Image" (or equivalent menu item) and you should be able to see it bigger.

It looks similar to an Abraham Storck yet slightly more modern in detail. Google image search links it to a YouTube video 'Dutch Naval History, and Netherlands 16th century Maps.'

You rock! Thank you thank you thank you thank you!

Maarten Platje is my age, so I guess this painting is about as modern as they get. :-)

You're very welcome.

Of course that year is as modern as one can get ;-))))

Looks to be very well done – well researched (I'm sure the Van de Veldes et. al. had something to do with that part).

I'd like a nice print of that one!
