I wish we could see more of this kind of thing. Everyone will do us French infantry carrying their muskets in what I once thought was called "March attack". But what we seem to be asking for on this forum are civilians, cavalry in cloaks, cavalry at rest, not charging hell for leather etc etc.

Gringos40 continue to negate all my efforts to scratchbuild whatever might be missing. I wanted an officer and trumpeter for my Lithuanian Tartars…so out came the saw, the Greenstuff and the superglue. …….after which they immediately released far more accurate figures of just them!

Same with my favourite unit of the Napoleonic Wars. Perrys and Gringos released Gendarmes d'Elite within weeks of each other. Thank goodness different styles of dress, with the latter including the earlier and smarter red lapelled coat. All that was missing was a kettle drummer, I thought and I set to work.

Not now is he missing. I tried to knock together something from a converted officer, but fortunately went for the "Rigo look" as defined in Joineau's Vol 3 Cavalry 1804-15 of French Imp Guard. The new figure is according to the plates of Noirmont and Marbot (again I rely on same source). This is not just the Mameluke drummer slightly revised!

This chap will look magnificent on his white horse, red coat, blue facings, silver lace etc. Some really nice details eg grenades on shabraque, the plaited mane on the horse, lace on the lapels.

In case anyone needs a bit more help with colour schemes, another well know image, plus a simple potential conversion to the bicorne hat, a later feature I think.

Now we are told that completes the range. You could not possibly come up with another variant! A pioneer of Gendarme's d'Elite, beard and all, I once thought I had seen, till I learnt he was Neapolitan! However, there may just have been a band…………..

Oh you tease……….

On foot? Even better, shouldered sword on a stationary horse?

I have some superb pictures of this guy in larger scales if folk are interested in colour schemes…….much debate obviously and probably changed……. like WHU's strip every season. I still wear the 1964 one….

The general? Savary….no, not a great demand……

Bicorne……oh yes. Would do for many a unit!

But my wish? Swap the aigulettes and do us some decent dragoons of the Guard. That is all it would take. Helmet and swap sides for the aigulettes. Cannot remember which way up the carbine goes, but no one will notice.

Horses totally ISQ. Instant high demand figures, for minimal effort. Desperate need. In 28mm any Empress Dragoon figures are rubbish and Hobbit like……..

Liam

all your splendid requests noted and maybe already acted on..no just teasing….but there are some GEMS up next..
you may have to be stretchered out of surgery once you find out……

yours in anticipation of my sculpter finishing the aforesaid
apogee of pewter and lead…well that's what im hoping for

some earlier commissions for Naps are just finished..they are next up.

en avant

…dragoons of the Guard…Cannot remember which way up the carbine goes, but no one will notice.

Really?

Well, I would, and I bet I'm not the only one.

@jammy four

If you want to ruin yourself just trust deadhead's opinion…grin

Dragoons of the Guard were not equipped with carbines but with muskets (fusils Charleville 1777 corrigés an IX) and they were not carried as with the Gendarmes d'Elite but – as was usual with dragoons – the other way round (muzzle on top, butt downward; check Martinet).

Scharnachthal

fear not ruined I will not be!!
the Empress Dragoons are a relatively
"safe" unit to do as apart from Arrighi
de Cassanova interjection they remained
unchanged till the 100 days……..

just a note to say I met Helena de Cassanova
and her brother the present Duke of Padua some
years ago at the chateau Courson outside Paris
his General of Division uniform is in a glass
case…………….spellbinding it was!!
was promised a set of his memoires….never
came so bought my own. very enlightning

Ok…I admit it…..yet again……got it wrong. Never stops being me being a great authority (or claiming to be anyway)on any topic.

and yet…you will notice that I did ask, but did not bother to check. I knew somewhere in my hind brain that there some suggestion of rotating 180 degrees.

Perrys got it right when they modified existing dragoons to become early G d'Elite……….. same base figures, but inverted musket (not carbine of course), helmet becomes bearskin with peak, horse is ISQ and aigulettes swap side…..except for occifers of course (complicated business this).

Took me ages to work out how to convert PNG to JPEG, but only 5 seconds to do it, after Googling the question!

Here is a sneak preview of a painted version. A small image as someone's photography proved not quite as good as the artwork…focus is poor….but you'll get the idea

Oh I don't have this guy yet. I do not know who painted or photographed him.

My poor drummer I showed here before.

I had no idea we would see a Kosher version from Gringos! So I took an eagle bearer, swapped his aigulettes, added trumpeter style lace from plastic strip and drums from Greenstuff. My horse is a bit puny for a drummer.

Subtly different outfit, but evidence for both. Already thinking this new one I might convert to Bicorne…..and maybe also do a Carabinier Drummer?

Great photos Deadhead!

It's this sort of figure, only of use for parade grounds, that got me hooked on Napoleonic uniforms when I got my first copy of Funcken (in French). So I got a new hobby and a better grasp of French for my GCSE exam.

Just received another picture of the painted kettledrummer. He is in the style shown by Jouineau in French Imperial Guard Vol 4…fringed epaulettes and no aigulettes. Drum banners are particularly well executed. Wonder who painted him?

HP2Sport31 Oct 2016 11:52 a.m. PST

Is that immediately above painted by Steven Maughn aka Waterloo1815 . Pretty sure it is having owned some of his figures before. He also writes books.

Deadhead / HP2Sport he is indeed painted by Steve Maughan
and I have just received him back…even better in the"flesh"
