Continuing the series of test games here are the Seleucid versus Parthia. The Parthian poses a set of interesting problems for a strong infantry force; duplicating Alexander's fight against the Scythian may offer some solutions. link Cheers, Robert |

I think the Parthians were lucky in game 1. Charging pike in the early stages is risky! Usually safer to threaten and thus pin the pike centre while waiting for one's Parthian light horse to work the flanks and/or go for their camp! Thanks for sharing those exciting games! In game 2, the river tactic usually going to be rough on Parthians! |

Durban Gamer, One of the goals of the series is to see how far the envelope labeled "risky" can be pushed. The use of LH depends much on your style of game but coming to grips with infantry (except Bw & Ps) or in this case the pike did not pose a problem. You may have noticed the pike block, elephant and auxiliaries form a group and move as much as possible as one. In this particular case, the LH was used to stall that group forcing the Seleucid player to commit his reserves earlier than was necessary. The Seleucid reserves consisted of the Companions (3Kn), Agema (3Kn) and chariots (SCh), all of which are easier victims for the LH. |
