I have just ordered some Kobolds and I wonder if anyone here can give me a suggestion om how to paint them to get the "right" skin colour.

Had a friend that did his in Cobalt Blue (for Gamma World/D&D cross over)

Cobolt blue is an interesting choice.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about it, but I want to paint then red, the same red as in the photo.

My problem is I don't know how to get the right "look", I'm not that much of an artist.

If there's any painter out there, who can give me tips on how to get that red skin look I would be grateful!

Any red brown would help. I would use Vallejo's Hull Red, wash it with Winsor & Newton's Nut Brown, and maybe a drybrush of a lighter red brown. Voila!

I'd try a heavy red-brown or chestnut wash first, then dry brush a light red or coral tone over the figure to highlight the raised areas and bring out the reddish tone after the wash has dried.

Going for the style rather than the exact match, I would use either old GW Mechrite Red or for the slightly more sane I've discovered that the Apple Barrel paint tube Barn Red gives similar colour if not coverage.

I'd start with Vallejo Leather brown, and gradually highlight with deep red.

I like the more orange / lizard-ish approach

I'd suggest mixing a very small amount of black paint, with a lighter red, to tint it to the desired color. Do it in a seal-able jar, if you want all of the figures to be the same, otherwise, mix on a white bathroom ceramic tile ($1, 6"-square, at your local DIY store -- makes a superb painting palette). It is not as difficult as most people imagine it to be. Cheers!

Reaper has a power palette you can use: reapermini.com/PowerPalette

You can also look over Reaper's reds for the red you want. Then find a triad which includes that red: link
