From a Facebook page I frequent: "You can go back to Napoleonic times and fight in any battle you want. You will not be harmed nor change history. Who do you serve under? Why them?" For polling purposes you'd probably have to answer "Wellington, Waterloo" or "Murat, Eylau" – that kind of thing. "None" should be an option. |

Wellington, Waterloo. On his staff so I would see the good stuff. The battlefield was more compact than most. And if I were to be GUARANTEED invulnerability, it would make a nice Michael Crichton "when amusement parks go bad" experience. And after the Prussians save the day I would say "That was nice. Can I go home now?" |

Ney, anywhere in the 1812 campaign. Just to see first-hand why he was the "Bravest of the Brave". |

None! I love my movie violence. And I get more excited then I should when I describe the effect of close range canister on humans. But I have no wish to see the suffering of thousands of men and horses. I have no wish to taste the blood smell. Nor step over mangled body parts. I would on the other hand like to stand a few miles away to really see the grand scope of a battle. And that would be Waterloo for the same reasons as others point out. It's very compact. |

None. Real war is horror. But I have an academic interest in the subject of war. As war gamers we see the battlefield as someone floating over it in a hot air ballon, seeing everything at once. I think I would like to keep that perspective of seeing the battle of Waterloo (being the one battle I know most about) from high up seeing how the troop deployments unfolded. No desire to see the up close blood and gore accompanied by the smell and heat of battle. |
