Seems a reasonable list, but I'm anything but an expert! |

It is annoying that the headline bit for each myth is the truth. I keep saying to myself "that is not a myth" Past that I can't remember which of these I learned were true in school (regular old US high school so no excuse for anyone not to know them) or later as part of my interest in history. Grant – Knew that from High School so that should not be a myth to anyone. Colored Troops – threading a needle, the troops they mention were not US authorized so technically do not count. Not to lesson anyone's contribution to the war. Never heard of any particular unit (colored or otherwise in school either) First Land Battle – First Bull Run (ha!) is always called the first major engagement of the Civil War, not the first so also something of threading a needle there. |

Yeah, the main fault is th the title. "Myth" has become Internet garbage, along with "shocking", "amazing" and "you won't believe" |

Most of the list is sort of click-bait pabulum. The "surprising" fact that the War was fought with modern weapons is filled with errors. Rockets don't date to the Mexican War, they date to ancient China and were used extensively (though not with great success) in the 18th and 19th Century (think "rockets red glare"). And the Confederates did not come out with electric mines (torpedoes, in the period parlance) those were pioneered by the Prussians in the 1830's. I could go in, but I'll spare you all. |

If you have read Foote or McPherson or the West Point Atlas or even Keegan then you not only know the history but also the errors in the linked internet article. Indeed, there is an interesting book by two University of Alabama profs called Attack and Die that shows the large Southern losses to the disadvantage to the CSA |
