Starting playing ACW using a blucher rules. I'm using just card units at the moo and was wandering if there are any peferable free sites that produce terrian in 2d for the period eg roof tops for houses, fences, hills woods. Anyone help

Blucher? I thought Longstreet was the ACW version of the Honour system?

For 2-D why not just use Google earth? Rooves don't look that different and the rest is still the same…

Longstreet rules are the official ACW rules but I see no reason that Blucher can't be used for a grand tactical take on the ACW. A lot less cavalry, a lot more woods and it should be ok.

It's a very easy and workable conversion to shift Blucher into an ACW Big Battle set.

I rebased all my old 15mm ACW stuff onto Blucher brigade size stands and it works just fine. Using home made cards or 2D units would be no problem either.

A few tweaks to account for the demise of Battle Cavalry etc some changes to artillery or what takes your fancy in terms of the transition over the 50 years between periods and off you go.

As the rules are are made for large actions the detail absorbed into the "a stand is a brigade" set up means the abstraction takes care of most differences anyway.

Period knowledge of most self respecting ACW buffs can easily handle the rest.

Major B – Longstreet is for Brigade/Division style actions. We have fought large 28mm battles with it but it pushes the envelope further than is worth the effort and shows the historical short comings of the original.

The differences between Longstreet and Blucher go far beyond just the period they cover.

Yes that's true.

The main one being that Longstreet is a card based system and Blucher isn't. Which is why Blucher can be used as a basis for other periods, you don't need any card decks to play the game.

Other principal difference is Longstreet units are made up of up to ten stands where as Blucher's are a single stand per unit. A different set up for different scales of game.
