OK, here's my situation. I am a HotT gamer (Hordes of the Things rules), and have several fun Weird WWI and WWII armies (US, Germans, British, mixed German-Russian as Tosevites). But I want to add a French army. Only problem is I am struggling to come up with some appropriate weird elements/troops for it. I suspect probably Napoleon as a god element, and a modified Char B.1 as a Behemoth, but beyond that I'm stumped. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Terry |

A couple of ideas can be delved out of French WWII comics. The most famous underground French comic of WWII was "Les Trois Mousquetaires du Maquis", about a trio of lovable goofy underdogs:

Depending on what kind of weird you want, national folklore might provide some pointers: link Regardless of the flavor of the weird you are looking for, I'm sure this book might be of assistance if you can find it: link |

Gear Krieg has the French using lots of Tesla weapons in the Maginot Line. |

Yea, how weird are your other armies? But a super-science version of the Maginot line with Telsa lightning throwers and such could work. Does HOTT have artillery or fortress units? -Will |

Thanks all, some really great possibilities. By all means Gargoyles from Notre Dame as Flyers. Good one Cmdr Kiley! Ah yes, and I do have Mr. Tesla planned in the conversion of my Char B.1. It's main gun will be a laser gun donated by Mr. Tesla. HotT is a pretty flexible set of rules. Originally written for Lord of the Rings type fantasy it quickly became more widely used for any period because the rules were so flexible. But at the same time make a truly fun game. I am doing at least 8 various Weird World War armies because the armies in HotT are usually pretty small in size, 12-14 element (bases). The scenario I am looking at for my French is one where I am also doing a German and a British army – mainly because those are the only ones I've found figures with gas masks(using Peter Pig). The premise is the war has quickly ruined the atmosphere due to incredible advances in science and technology …. and maybe pushed on a little bit by alien influence, or in the case off the Germans the occult. So all figures must be wearing either a gas mask or a closed helmet of some type. But included are mega panzers, walkers, a German flying saucer, a jet Spitfire, jet pack British Paras, speeder cycles, German Robots, etc. You get the idea. In some cases I will do head swaps, but most conversions are with the available tank and walker models. I game in 15 MM, but use 10 MM tanks and walkers as they fit the allowed base size with having to make them deeper. I have finished two armies, a US army based on Hollywood movies, and a Tosevite army from Turtledove's World war series. I am currently working on my Red Skull army to oppose The US Hollywood boys, and it is proving a lot of fun. Many, many head swaps as this army is based on the biological sciences a la the movies in the Outpost series, Dead Snow and War of the dead, plus books on a similar theme. HotT does require the defender to have a Stronghold, so for the Germans I am doing two which I can use interchangeably – the tower from "The Keep" or the bunker from the movie The Devil's Rock. The British will have a Quonset hut compound, and the Hollywood army will have a tent compound a la Capt. American: The First Avenger. The Tosevites will get a Russian farm and the Race will have a dome tent painted bright orange! Not yet sure what to do for the French??? Thanks again everyone, Terry |

What kind of Stronghold? Why, a Chateau should be a good one. |

Or a chunk of the Maginot line for a less whimsical French force. I need to get a copy of HotT, I want to build the Gate 3rd JSDF recon unit. |

Yes, a turret or such from the Maginot Line would be ideal. And Peter Pig for one offers some, as well as other companies. I usually do my Strongholds in 6 MM so I can more of a little diorama of it. A Chateau is also a good option. Thanks guys! Terry |

Moroccan Goumiers could be added. They could have brought a Genie if you so desired. Would love to see photos of your "Race/Lizard" army. I have thought of doing something like that to spring against 'straight' modern forces. |

Apache 6, I am currently finishing up my Red Skull army, with 4 elements to go. Then I will be doing my Race army and definitely share pictures of it. A comment here about doing the Race army. I originally bought some lizard figures from 15 MM. Co. UK which would be fine except they really fit better with 20 MM figures than the 15's I use. So I went back on the hunt and ordered some Pendraken 10 MM lizards armed with guns and a few with swords, etc. to convert to machine gunners, radio operators, etc. I'll pass the original larger lizards on as I no longer have a use for them. So if you want to stay correct to the book remember your lizards need to be smaller than your humans/Tosevites, as they are described as being about the size of a human 10 year old. I appreciate your interest and suggestions. Terry |
