The Battle of Krnov was fought today. This involved 1 Prussian infantry division (5 inf. regts. 4 12lb guns)under GD Manstein against 2 Austrian divisions (10 inf. regts 4 12b guns and 1 hussar regt.) under Gen. Piccolomini. The Austrians realizing that they outnumbered the Prussians attacked vigorously! The Prussians were deployed on a hill and at first resisted all Austrian attacks. Even routing numerous Austrians regts. But in the end the Austrians routed the center (held by the Brandes Fusiliers) and the Prussians started a general retreat. This victory allows the Austrians to invade eastern Silesia and commence a siege of the Neisse fortress. A video is available at:

There were 800 Prussian figures (8,000 men) v.s. 1,880 Austrian figures (18,800 men) involved in the battle

Seems alittle strange to have an 18th century battle with practically no cavalry.

There were 6 other (3 each for both Prussia and Austria) armies maneuvering for position in Silesia and Saxony when this isolated battle occurred. Originally these Prussians were marching towards Schweidnitz, but stopped when that fortress was taken. Also we just finished fighting the Battle of Prague where 22 of the total 33 Prussian cavalry regts. had fought. The other 10 regts were with Prince Henri besieging the Saxons near Dresden.

This is one reason why I like campaigns….the resources are what they are. Of course maybe Frederick should had been "more careful" with this division.
