I did try to cross reference this but it didn't work

Anyway I know from my book on Soviet Equipment that the BMP2 when into production around 1976/77.

So to decide which BMP model to build, can any one kindly advise me from creditable sources roughly the ratio of BMP1s to BMP2s in 1985 ?

Also to settle an argument can anyone confirm that the American M2 Bradley IE the infantry one was in service in Europe albeit in small numbers in 1985 ?

Thanks guys

The osprey book "The M2 Bradley" has drawings of Bradleys that were present in Europe for Reforger 84 and 85. 1-7 Inf. and 1-15 Inf. in 3rd inf. Div. for 84 and 1-7 Inf. 3rd Inf. Div. for 85. Solid green color for 84. The 85 image has an improvised snow camo. pattern.

Some(not all) Soviet motor rifle batallions in the early-mid 1980's,I read, had a mix ;one company with BMP 2's ;the other two with BMP 1's.

Few BMP-2s, from what I've read.

I ran across another thread mentioning M3 Bradleys in Europe in 1983.

Within GSFG 2 BMP-1 Bns to 1 BMP-2 Bnn. Here the MR Bns have their own shed areas in which all Bn assets are accommodated:

I gotta ask, Nick, do you have a consolidated place for all these aerial/satellite photos like a single photobucket folder? Fascinating stuff, seeing all the vehicles laid out like that!

Lion,

not consolidated anything bit in and around here:

The Sovs had an odd mix of BMP1 and 2 in GSFG which I haven't quite been able to fathom fully. The CFE Treaty inspections in 1990-91 show many BMP1s still coexisting with BMP2s within the same MRRs, but frequently in proportions like 40/60 or 50/50, which is hard to reconcile with their 3 platoon/3 Company/3 Battalion structure. It's true though that from 1985-6 the rate of production and supply of all new vehicles progressively began to reduce as the Soviet economy finally wound down- so the 1990 figures may reflect that slow down.

Re Infantry Bradleys- another unit equipped with them by mid 1984 was the 2nd Armoured- both the Forward Brigade at Garlstedt and the other Texas based units like the Tiger Brigade- which used POMCUS sets when it deployed for Ex LIONHEART in Sept 1984.
I think the 1st Cavalry was close behind the Hell on Wheels in terms of Bradley issue, and may also have had some POMCUS sets in Germany by 85, but veterans will know best.
