I know according to one of my books on Soviet equipment that the BMP2 went into production around 1976/77.

Does anyone know from creditable sources the ratio of BMP2s to BMP1s.

For me this will be the deciding factor whether I build my BMPs as 1s or 2s

I should perhaps add the date of 1985 for those not familiar with the book or game

Does it matter? Wouldn't a particular Soviet company be equipped with a single model? (All BMP-2s, or all BMP-1s?)

With the battlefront ones you can magnetize (or just leave it loose) the top deck and turret and swap/use them as both according to your whim.

Generally in GSFG it was 2 Bns of BMP-1 to 1 Bn of BMP-2. Both might be found in the Recce Coy and BMP-2 in the AD Bn.

Source was this sort of stuff:

The BMP-2 Bn is the left hand side of the 3 MR Bns.

Tally Ho!

Thanks Nick . I am erring towards the BMP2 as its AT capability is better in the game .

I'm waiting for the BTR stats

The BTR is an obvious big hole in the Soviet Equipment list for Team Yankee at the moment.

As is the T-64 and the BMD.

Also,I'll have to see about trying that with any future BMP boxes I might buy.

BMP-1s were far more numerous, but of course, it is possible to field an "elite" unit if you prefer.

If going for a wider Cold War period range, if you are interested in earlier timelines as well, the BMP-1 is the better choice.

Hmm, I hadn't considered leaving the top hull deck loose to allow switching them. I might have to experiment with some magnets. Thanks for the suggestion!
