New modern naval wargame rules available on Wargamesvault.

Special discounted price of $8.00 USD for TMP members!

"Naval Command is a set of wargame rules for recreating naval battles with fleets of miniature warships and aircraft in the age of the guided missile and jet aeroplane. Covering the period from the late 1950s to the modern day or near future.

The game can be played with fleets ranging in size form one or two ships per side to full sized battlegroups of ten or more ships. The rules can be used for different sizes of ships ranging from small fast attack craft up to super-carriers engaged in open sea battles or littoral and amphibious missions.

The aim of these rules is to create a game that captures the feel and provides a fairly accurate recreation of modern naval engagements but is still relatively quick to play with reasonably sized fleets and does not require excessive bookkeeping and paperwork.

The rulebook contains all the rules needed to play the game and fleet lists for a range of nations."

How much has this changed since you gave them away a few weeks ago? They looked really nice and I'd like to pick it up, but am wondering how much new there is.

Cold Warrior16 Aug 2016 9:22 a.m. PST

With TGerritsen, interested but want to know what has changed. The free version has 41 pages and lists the US, UK and Russian/Soviet Navies. Wondering if you expanded the range of navies in the new version?

The rules have undergone numerous small changes and tweaks to make the game run better as a result of extensive play testing and feedback. It's been a busy few weeks of working on the rules.

The book now also includes fleet lists for 1980s Argentina (Falklands War), Modern French and Modern Chinese Navies.

Just purchased the rules, will give them a read through later, but they do look nice. Any plans on expanding the navy lists? Say modern Japan, NATO nations, etc.

Crabbman16 Aug 2016 10:53 a.m. PST

Many Thanks!

I'm currently working on expanded lists for all the navies in the book. And will be making lists for ass many nations as possible.

These will all be released as free pdf supplements to the rules available to download.

Sounds good!

Good luck with your venture Rory

After reading through them last night, there are some significant changes and clarification in the rules and layout. The only thing I miss about the free version is the "ship card" approach, however that is not a big deal one way or another. Certainly worth a purchase even if you got the free version.

Looking forward to future updates/releases.

Crabbman18 Aug 2016 5:14 a.m. PST

Thanks for all the comments :)

In reply to Cold Warrior it is my plan to make the ship cards available as a free download from my site.

Hi All.

Expanded fleet lists for Royal Navy, US Navy and the Soviet Navy are now available to download from my website.

Lists for the Chinese, French and Italian Navies are also in the pipeline.

Hi all

Any players feel free to let me know what fleet lists you want next. I will also be producing a number of scenario and campaign supplements.

Would definitely like to see JMSDF, India and Pakistan lists.

At present my "to-do" list of fleets is as follows:

China
France
Germany
Japan
Italy
India
Pakistan

Can anyone who played this tell me if these rules would be appropriate for Corvette-FAC scaled actions?

Rev Zoom27 Aug 2016 11:04 p.m. PST

I like it – a lot. You've managed to capture the essential elements without bogging the game down in layers of detail. Bravo Zulu.

Crabbman30 Aug 2016 3:35 a.m. PST

In response to "cwlinsj" the rules would work for Corvette and FAC scale actions, however due to the fast-play nature of the rules it would be a very quick and bloody game.

I am intending to release some fleet lists including smaller vessels such as Corvettes and Fast Attack Craft.

In response to "Rev Zoom" glad you like it! It was my aim when first designing the rules to attempt to remove much of the unnecessary detail that plagues many naval rule sets.

Thanks for the heads up on this.
I had originally downloaded the starter rules you posted and liked what I saw.
I hope to run a game this fall.
