Who makes the best range including quality of sculpts, completeness, personality figures, and price in the consideration? |
advocate | 16 Aug 2016 5:58 a.m. PST |
Perry. You can go metal, plastic or a mix. |
Dervel | 16 Aug 2016 6:01 a.m. PST |
Perry is really hard to beat. |

Old Glory's range is very nice, and the price can't be beat. |
jaxenro | 16 Aug 2016 6:24 a.m. PST |
How is front ranks? How complete is Perry's? |
Jlundberg | 16 Aug 2016 7:08 a.m. PST |
I am not sure what might be missing from the Perry's |

Perry is great. I also like Front Rank but not so much variety. |

I still like the old Foundry range, which make up most of my WOTR armies Mike |
Tarleton | 16 Aug 2016 7:58 a.m. PST |
My favourite figures are Mark Copplestones old "Human Fighters" range from Grenadier (now from Forlorn Hope Games link or Mirliton via Vexillia Ltd. link I use some Old Glory, a few Foundry and Front Rank too. |

Going to Fall In? Take a look in person. If I were going to buy a couple of fair-sized armies, I'd go with the Old Glory deal--very inexpensive, and nice range. |

Perry plastic and metal with out a doubt. |

Another vote for Perry hands down. The Front Rank are nice but for the money and extension of the range Perry is the way to go. |

I'm using Perry plastics mostly. The foot knights are the best of those kits. A friend has a beautiful army made up entirely of Old Glory. That's a good option. The one thing I would say is that the OG figures are a little shorter than the Perry. I don't think they mix all that well, but others have done so and see no issue, FWIW. |

Perry's stuff is awesome and as complete as it needs to be, a few plastic sets supplemented with some of their metals makes a great army in no time and for a reasonable price too |

Perry for price and variety. Front Rank if price is no object. Let the heads and dice roll. TomT |

Be warned that this was largely an infantry war. Very little cavalry was involved in the battles, unless you play "sci-fi WOTR". |
jaxenro | 16 Aug 2016 6:19 p.m. PST |
Mostly archers and bills was my understanding the nobles ran around on horses but most of their men walked and I doubt they were all as "uniform" as we sometimes see. I sort of understand livery but I thought a lot of them were just peasants from the estates, townsman who turned out, and the like |

Perry for me too, got a 400 piece Yorkist army, about to start on the Yorkist. Great plastic sets, a few metals, They have amazing command sets, wagons, artillery, the lot. And they are nicely proportioned, and incredible sculpts John |

As Jaxenro stated mostly an infantry war with some early artillery. You would have lots of archers, billmen/polearms and dismounted men at arms in plate armor wielding a wide range of pole weapons. My understanding (and with much salt added as I am not well versed on the WOTR to the degree I would like) is that overall the forces were retinues of the various nobles involved so semi-professional to professional forces. Very little in the way of peasant forces or levy. Although yes some did join in. Also the conflicts appear to have been extremely limited engagements that did not harm and damage the local country side to the degree that previous wars had done nor on the scale of the later English Civil Wars. One way I understand this is that the WOTR could be look at as gangland war set in the late Middle Ages with the various parties attempting to determine who would run the country. Others with more knowledge may come back and completely disagree with my assessment and that is fine. |
jaxenro | 17 Aug 2016 12:33 p.m. PST |
My understanding isn't what I would like yet either but I think retinue sort of overstates it. Isn't it more like clients or people who pledged to serve their lord as opposed to full time soldiers. So a farmer or baker or carpenter who was also pledged to serve when called? I mean England couldn't have maintained that quantity of men constantly under arms given their total population could they? |

Front Rank for me. Although the range could do with a couple more character figures. Personally, I think that the Perry range is overrated… (lights touch paper and ducks..) from a figure perspective the Front Rank ones have more character, Perry, less so. YMMV.. |

Perry by far. Front Rank are very, very nice, but Perry are simply the best, and a complete range. They even made that wonderful figure in the parking lot! |

I gotta admit after reading this link All 112 page so am impressed wth what can be done with Perry |
Rabelais | 19 Aug 2016 12:21 p.m. PST |
It's really a matter of taste. I'd go with Front Rank personally. IIRC if you go with Perry, you have to use their plastics if you want archers shooting. |

Perry and Old Glory are my favorites. I also have the Crusader ones that Simms bought out. Those are smaller. |
