I've gotten more than a few requests for a fantasy version of Starport Scum and that should be available shortly in an early release form.

It'll combine the same quick, narrative gameplay style with all manner of randomly generated dungeon-hacking and will sit in the same span between tabletop wargaming and roleplaying.

The way the release will function is that you will able to buy the game early for about 3 dollars off.
This gives you the basic combat mechanics and every new bit as its developed and polished off.

That way, early adopters get to test it first and get it a bit cheaper.
If that's not your thing, just wait until its done and buy it normally, no sweat either way.

Watch this space tomorrow or Tuesday :)

(and if you have no idea what I am talking about, here's a review for Starport scum that should clue you into whether you'll want a fantasy version of this:

Hey, that's good news! Thanks!

I'm intrigued. But then, I was intrigued by the original version, too, and have yet to take the bait. grin

Weasel14 Aug 2016 4:07 p.m. PST

LOL, you'll like it Beast.

The Beast Rampant14 Aug 2016 10:02 p.m. PST

Oh, you. Next, you'd have me paint up these old Traveler minis I just got off Ebay, for some reason.

Weasel14 Aug 2016 11:05 p.m. PST

The old 15mm fig's? They go very well with Laserburn figures I might add ;-)

RetroBoom15 Aug 2016 6:06 a.m. PST

That's awesome! I like the ideas behind many of the systems of Starport, but the color wasn't my thing. Make it a dungeon crawl though… *\o/* (those are pom poms)

No, old 25/28mm Grenadier. And I love my 15mm Citadel/RAFM ones, too!

The fantasy version would suit where I'm currently going with SoBaH, Frostgrave, Otherworld FS, etc. I'm trying to keep the SF on the back burner for now, and I don't need you sabotaging me with intriguing rules! grin

Weasel15 Aug 2016 10:05 a.m. PST

Oh right, I forgot about the Grenadier ones, the only ones I ever saw in person was the one sold by RAFM now.

Do the grenadier ones match up with Stargrunt figures by any chance?

The goal for Dungeonscum is to hit the same "half RPG half wargames" approach. So its not strictly a solo-dungeon crawler but it can be that if you want, or you can play it out like an easier version of D&D.

The goal is to have quite a bit of content in there. I wrote up 50 or 60 spells split into 5 or 6 magical schools, and there'll be a ton of loot items.

The Beast Rampant15 Aug 2016 10:35 a.m. PST

The Grenadier ones are a bit big for their era; If memory serves- I traded off my NSL troops years back- the GZG minis are a bit too small to freely mix.

Rats. "true" 25mm scifi is super super tempting but there's so few manufacturers out there compared to the wealth in 15mm.

The Beast Rampant15 Aug 2016 11:48 a.m. PST

In case you overlooked them, the (original?) Space Marine" line carried by Stan Johansen is true 25:

I wasn't familiar with them, but not so sure about the style. Though some of the 15mm guys look good.

A quick update: Just waiting on some cover art then the beta/early version will go up.

THe early version won't have the magic item tables but it WILL have 60 spells available.

stroezie18 Aug 2016 11:05 a.m. PST

Well color me interested!
Will it have lots of dungeon style creapy crawlies and tables of goodies so we can loot the room once we kill them? 8)

Weasel18 Aug 2016 3:11 p.m. PST

There'll be a BEEPton of magic items for sure.

Monsters, I am not 100% sure how I;ll do.
There'll be a selection but it might be a bit shorter. Maybe 15 or so.
More critters can always appear later on.
