Six members of the Bait Jonas have deserted the 28th April Victory Battalion and reached Begarra, a deserted village on the Omani plain, with the aim of meeting up with two members of the SAS to discuss the formation of a firquat to fight the Adoo of the communist insurgency on behalf of Sultan Qaboos.

Begarra has just been reoccupied by the Sultan's Armed Forces who intend to use this a base for a platoon of the Northern Frontier Regiment. The local commander's brief is to actively patrol as far as the lower reaches of the Jebel, restore local confidence and start a local health programme based in the newly constructed tin roof building. There has been no enemy activity in the area in the three days since the reoccupation and the Platoon CO has sent two sections out on a three day patrol leaving the village secured by the HQ section of four men and on section of eight men for security. All are newly armed with FN rifles and the security section has a GPMG and are based in the adobe structures.
The arrival of the six tribesmen has made the SAF very nervous and they are housed with the two FN armed SAS men in the shanty area. The tribesman have been relieved of their AKs and reequipped with the FN. The SAF have mounted three sentries as a precaution against an Adoo attack but also with one eye on the tribesmen!

Jebeli Jonas, chief of the Bait Jonas and leader of the 28th April Victory battalion, has closely pursued his deserting tribesmen and having eluded the two section SAF patrol, has arrived and surrounded Begarra. Luckily the Khareef mist has shrouded their arrival and deployment and now forty AK armed Adoo await the signal to attack after a short preliminary bombardment from a 73mm Recoiless Riflr transported by mule and with only four useable rounds.

We used classic Ambush Alley with stats for SAS and Adoo taken from the Mirbat scenario from the Classified book. Adoo – D6, Firquat – D6, SAF – D8 and SAS – D10.
Victory conditions for the SAF forces are to beat off the assault, protect the medical centre and cause as many casualties as possible. +1 for each Adoo KIA, +5 for Jebeli Jonas KIA and +10 for successfully defending the village.

At the first signs of dawn the Adoo use their Recoiless Rifle to good effect destroying a tin shanty which was unoccupied. The fall of shot was determined randomly to reflect the hurried nature of the Adoo deployment and the effects of the Khareef.

Jebeli Jonas uses his numerical superiority to try and overrun the town but a poor movement lead to the opportunity to catch the assault in the open.

Really poor throws for the SAF with only two SAF groups reacting and ready to return fire. The SAS fail their activation and sleep on though the firquat decide to stay in the shanties.

Better movement from the Adoo who locate and kill the SAS in close combat in the shanties while trading wild gunfire with the firquat who are wiped out in an unequal battle.

As the sun burns off the last of the mist Jebeli Jonas surveys the site of a stunning victory having met all the Adoo victory conditions with 47 points compared with 14 points for the SAF. The victory has not been without cost with 14 Adoo paying the ultimate price for the revolution.
The 28th April Victory Battalion may not have long to celebrate their victory as the sounds of the fighting have attracted the attention of the two section fighting patrol which is now making its way back to Begarra……
