That's a good little post, actually. An acquaintance of mine used the pebble side for Napoleonics and that also worked very well, but the tar should be ideal for modern. |

Have you made any curves? |

You paid way more than I did. I have a Home Depot just down the road and seem to find myself in there a couple of times a month. I can always find an open bundle of shingles laying around and I ask a worker if I can have one shingle for free. Over time this really adds up! I also spray paint them brown and get a good effect. |

Any tips on making the stencils? |

Have you looked at the bundles of "starter" shingles. Same size and materials as the shingle, but not slots cut to create the tabs. Also, you can use duct tape to cover over the gravel side which not only prevents gravel from falling off (everywhere) but also allows one to use short pieces of tape to temporarily hold the sections together from the bottom during games. |

Thanks all – glad you've found it useful. @Extra Crispy --- not yet, but I will. Can easily get several different curves out of the width. Will probably just do a few 45s and 90s. @WeeSparky --- I have not, gonna check into that for sure – thanks for the tip! @Pan Marek --- Use a really sharp exacto knife ;-) Seriously, you can either buy stencils or make them. Easiest is to use cardboard from cereal boxes. The cardboard I use is thicker map board but the only reason I used that was because I was out of thinner cardboard. My lines are 1/8" thick and I use 1/4" intervals between the dotted lines. @Davdebbak --- lol, California, Fremont, everything costs more ;-) |

They will last forever. I have used them for about 25 years using the original purchase. Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |

Cool, with some beige and sandy grey paint in the airbrush you can make it look worn and old. Inspiring work! |
