The people in charge of these networks that broadcast these classic shows make the ridiculous assumption that only old folks watch them for nostalgic reasons, so commercials targeted to elderly people's needs are shown. These people are too short-sighted to fathom that younger generations are discovering these classic shows and creating a new fan base. And it is not just "Star Trek" but other shows that are being discovered and appreciated by younger viewers, as well. |

And click on Bill's link for canes. And maybe it's just denial on my part. Sometimes I check old shows (older than ST),shows that I loved as a child, like Superman,or The Cisco Kid,out of nostalgia. And I remember the original ads--"Kids,ask your Mom to get Ralston Chex!"(and I did!). Or even better: "Looks and feels just like a real Winchester rifle--the rifle that tamed the West!" Cereal: youtu.be/krjYQkJV7GA youtu.be/EsRoQRXW8H4 Guns: youtu.be/tKFVsgQxVBk youtu.be/MehGQaeRnVU
Or,if you preferred something more modern, with all the trimmings(and had indulgent parents): youtu.be/cvCTJlADySQ Or wanted to shoot a bunch of elephants: youtu.be/d554SF5ua2Y
Even the cops got in on the action: youtu.be/GoJw9UQ5JQ4 Now? "Sometimes it's hard to get up out of a chair. Well, not anymore, with the new Supercane!"
As I said, makes me feel old. Which I am. To which the only rejoinder is, I guess,"That's the way the bones crumble, mate!" Still feels a little premature for Star Trek, though. |

I'm 40 and have had to walk with a cane since I was 16, so ya. |

It's not the Star Trek that's making the marketing suits assume senility. It's the television bit. link |

Oh,great,so now watching TV is paleo too? Thanks, that makes me feel SO much better. Oh well, not surprising. I saw a survey where c.18% of respondents said they would be willing to have holes drilled in their skulls,if it would give them direct interlink to their brains. And that was about 15 years ago. Probably higher now. Or has it started already? I can't keep up with these here wireheads, dangit! Anyway,I had something they never can: The Gung Ho Hand Grenade! |

For 'uncut' episodes of Star Trek as they advertise, they seem to pack in an awful lot of commercials…maybe that's how you know you're old… :) |
