On Facebook someone asked for pictures of my magnetic basing system but I lost the thread. So here they are.

Using this system I can base everything to a pleasing, single size. Rebase for a new game? NEVER! Just spend an hour and cut up some sheet magnet.

Picture 1: four bases of troops on 20x20 metal stands, and a piece of sheet magnet. Picture 2: Bases on the magnet showing the holding power. I wouldn't carry them this way, but the magnet is pretty strong. Picture 3: The magnet trimmed just undersized, maybe 78mm x 18mm. The magnet disappears. I offset one base just to show the magnet is really there. If I need an oversized base (for example if the game for today requires that 4 bases be 100 mm instead of 80mm) I spray paint the magnet green.

Here's a similar but subtly different magnetic basing system.

And another using sabots and magnets.

How many more methods are there?

I use a method where the figures are based on the super-thin wooden bases from Litko, with magnetic tape stuck to the bottom. The combination is still pretty thin, and also makes them a bit better on slopes. If I need to use sabots, I buy nice, round-edged pre-cut, black painted metal bases from this fellow:

Great service, and they add a nice heft to bases of smaller 5-10mm figures.

Cheers,

Mt figures are individually mounted on Litko (great service) 20mm x 20mm thin metal bases. Then I cut magnetic sheeting to any unit configuration that I want ie skirmish, open order and close order.

And if I ever need to change my unit basing for a new set of rules (unlikely) it is easy to reconfigure. Magnetic basing is the way to go for basing.

I cut my own 3/4 in X 3/4 in bases out of thin steel for 28s. 60mil magnetic sheet cut to the games base size and no rebasing ever :) If you are doing skirmish with 1 inch stands, just use a hole punch to cut the mag sheet and glue it on a 1 inch washer. Full sheets of 60mil mag sheet hold the figs in their boxs.

Being kind of lazy I order magnetic bases and steel movement trays form Shogun Miniatures. Great service, great range, great quality, custom orders available.
