I'm wondering if any of you know of some good books that focus on the ECW in the north-east of England, particularly County Durham, Tyne & Wear, and Northumberland? |

Hi trojanbunny, Could try the BCW Project here link first. Stuart Reid has written a bunch of articles in old ECW N&Q on the Covenanter invasion and siege of Newcastle and there are some good wargames scenarios in ancient issues of WI and MW magazines. IIRC there was a book out a few years ago called 'the road to Marston Moor' but I haven't read that yet. |

Stuart Reid's book 'All the King's Armies' has a concise and accurate account of the 1644 campaign, culminating in the siege of Newcastle. Less concise and less accurate is John Sadler's 'The Great Siege of Newcastle 1644'. C S Terry's articles in Archaeologica Aeliana 1899 cover the 1644 campaign from the Scots' point of view. The most thorough account of the whole war in the North is: P R Newman's PhD thesis 'The Royalist Army in the North of England 1642 -1645'. This can be downloaded from EThos. |

Apologies, corona; but thanks to Timbo for righting it. (It was off the top of my head, and for EThOS the spelling has to be correct). |
