Bonjour Chaps, I've already got some of the excellent Front Rank Spanish Dragoons but need some more Spanish cavalry so I was thinking of getting these: Spanish Cazadores a caballo Standard Bearer link I wondered if anybody else has got them and would like to comment on them? I bought their Brunswick Oels some years ago and they were a pleasure to paint. Cheers, Paul |

Nice figures I painted a unit of 12 but the horses are somewhat weak in the ankles. |

The older Capitan figures (Spanish production) were outstanding but the newer Capitan figures are crude copies…smaller and poor detail with lots of flash. I have both productions and the differences are stark. |

Are the molds worn out? Perhaps a different metal used for the casting? |

I had major problems with an 18mm order of warmodelling figures which were carried by Capitan. Really poorly cast and I still have them unpainted as they are almost totally unusable. I think they were casting from second generation masters. I was assured that they were sorting the problems but I haven't risked another order. |

Are these 28MM? How do they compare in size to Front Rank or Bicorn 28MM? |

The figures look good on their site, but I'm not sure about the standard-bearer. From 1803 it was decreed that the light cavalry would not carry standards in the field, one standard being retained at the depot for ceremonial occasions. So I don't think you would want a standard-beraer figure in a unit of Spanish Cazadores a caballo or Húsares. |

I know nothing about Iberian Cavalry in the Peninsular Wars, but I do know that my Gendarmes d'Elite ( a tiny unit) have no fewer than three eagles. One carried by a chap in full dress and a bearskin, one by a fellow in a bearskin and a surtout and one by a smart lad in that fancy Royalist helmet. Cavalry units esp, we all cheat…….few units actually carried eagles and standards/pennants/guidons etc if they were involved in anything but main battle line….. |

Of course you can "cheat" if you want to, its only a hobby! But in my Spanish armies I have tried not to cheat, and thus I gave standards to the heavy cavalry and dragoons but not to the light cavalry. |
