I mentioned this on another thread about chariot racing backdrops, but a pretty intact and awesome mosaic was discovered on Cyprus recently: link

I love the way the colours seem to have held up, though I do want to yell at the people standing on the uncovered portions to get off!

Yes,thanks. I hope they removed it before the colors started fading.
Reminds me of the discoveries in Zeugma, just before the dam flooding.

I weep for what's been lost from that.

I agree with you about all the great finds being destroyed because man wants more and more power to run more and more so he can breed more and more, no balance at all it seems even with all the science available. The nice thing about mosaics though is that 1 they are of stone or glass or some other hard substance thus pretty darn hardy, they also are with the above best science easy to preserve and if need be move to a better safer site (sometimes museums but with the cr+p in the ME not always-best we westerners steal it all and put it in our museums ;>) That is a superb find, look at those horses such great artistic care in rendering, nice. On an aside if any of you guys want to leave a bit of our would to be discovered a mosaic in your back yard would not be a bad thing. Happy mosaicing.
