1. We use 5x4 table, but you can get away with a 4x4 table.
2. Depends on the army. I've seen armies that only have 13 bases (Prussian Territorial Defense) and then armies that have 54 bases, (Ottoman with lots of Segbans). The army that I used at Historicon had 25 bases which is typical.
3. Again it depends on what you consider complex? I would give it a 4 on a scale of 1-10. Most of the really thick rulebook is actually background, army lists and pretty pictures. About a third of the rulebook is rules and even that part is loaded up with pictures, taking by volume a third of that section.
4. Much freer flowing that FOG-R. Cavalry moves 8 inches and infantry 4, and cavalry can charge a further 4 or 8 inches, giving a potential charge move of 16 inches a turn. If both sides want to charge, they can reach out from 32" and touch each other. Casualties can be rallied back until you lose a base.
