Actual title is A Time for Trumpets, the Untold story of the Battle of the Bulge. This is the same author of Company Commander. I would give this a top rating, filled with lots of details i didn't hear before. But I just started the chapter on Bastogne(around chapter 26)and my Kindle Unlimited ran out. Can anyone tell me how it ends?

(Kidding of course)

This is the single greatest WWII history book, I've ever read.

Flying saucers break the siege. There, I spoiled it.

It is very good.
And "Company Commander" is required reading.

Take the GIs, give the 6 points…

Ummmm no. M-24's holds off hundreds of King Tiger Tanks which are then destroyed by flaming fuel barrels.

Agree about Company Commander as well, I just reread it for the 3rd time.

If you want more of McDonald's work there are three volumes of the official history of WWII

The Last Offensive
The Siegfried Line Campaign
Three Battles: Arnaville, Altuzzo, and Schmidt

To finish it i might buy the kindle book, I think Kindle Unlimited is a good deal but was actually buying books and hadn't used it in awhile so turned it in but had weeks to go so read Company Commander then started Time for Trumpets.

Oh and I saw the movie
They all walk back to Germany

LOL! That was one of the books I purchased when I joined a military themed book club back in the '80s. One of those deals where you get so many books for a few bucks and then commit to buy so many more books over the next year or two.

I read it and enjoyed it very much. I've got several large Rubbermaid tubs full of books and I know my copy is in one of them somewhere.

Spoiler alert: At the end of the book, the Germans bomb Pearl Harbor and this gives Lincoln the opportunity to release his Emancipation Proclamation just in time for the first moon landing. (Well, first moon landing by earthlings, anyway!)

One part of Company Commander: his company was ready to attack an German-held village. They got a platoon of tanks for support, another company with tank support on their flank, an artillery barrage and an air strike. It was so rare that the infantry of both companies stood up and cheered. The Germans surrendered after firing some shots.

It's the only air support his company ever saw, the only time they saw another infantry company in support. They did get artillery from time to time. I don't recall if they got armor support other times.

They did once, but as soon as one of the tanks took fire they all backed up and left the infantry to their own devices, if I recall correctly.
