[/URL] This is my friend's grandfather. Does the picture reveal anything about his service? She knows next to nothing of his combat experience, other than he ended up as a Soviet POW. I believe she said he was a panzer crewman. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Yep, from the uniform a enlisted Panzer crewman. Can't see an awards or other distinctions in this picture. |

This looks like the standard "fresh out of basic" stock photo that gets sent home. Not much info that can be gathered. |

Is the collar emblem significant? |

The collar emblem was standard panzertruppen collar patch The uniform colour is interesting – looks like feldgrau rather than panzer black Assault gun crews wore feldgrau uniforms but as I recall were supposed to have classic litzen on the collars; but I also recall some of them liked to have the panzer skull emblem So while he was probably a tanker I wonder if he might have been a StuG crewman |
