I find it odd that two days after this mega event nobody has posted anything about the show. So for those of you who went please regale us… New games? New figures? What did you play? Good deals? How was the historical miniatures scene? |

I got to play Mutant Crawl Classics, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Castles and Crusades, and AD&D 1st ed. while I was there. Picked up Frostgrave's new Into the Breeding Pits expansion and a box of the new Gnolls. Bought a miniature of the Power Loader from the Aliens movie, and the queen to go with it. Got a great deal on a Castles & Crusades players Handbook. Had some good food and good times with my friends. |

No it is not odd at all. The vast majority of Gen Con attendees are involved with more current social media outlets. Forums are not their preference, and the average demographics of TMP not their peer group. Besides why should they set themselves up just to hear why others think it is a mistake. Five days of battling trolls is enough, so look for your regaling elsewhere. |

I know that last year I didn't post any pictures or anything, besides Tweets I did during the convention, until a week or two afterwards. Quite worn out! Almost needed a vacation to get over my vacation! :) |

"….so look for your regaling elsewhere." What a er… Now who's the troll? TRU |

Lol… Didn't realize the "W" word was censor worthy. TRU |

Well somebody failed their Diplomacy check I see. Maybe you need a Stoneskin potion? In all seriousness though, wasn't there anything worthy of reporting back on? Or is everyone still recovering like CG mentioned? |

Not one historical gamer has EVER had an interest in GenCon. That person who used to set up an entire German Panzer Division in the basement of the church across the alley of the Horticultural Center never had a visitor. That big Napoleonic battle never had any players, it was just a static display. WRG Ancients games were never played out in open center of the Lake Geneva Horticultural Hall. Zulu and Alexander Nevsky were never show at night. As GenCon moved from location to location, NO open gaming areas were ever used by historical gamers and I'm sure that the HMGS Midwest has never had a presence there. Yeah, why would anyone have an interest at what was new at GenCon. |

Cyrus – WOW -you are incredibly misinformed or just choose to ignore the facts or perhaps that was an attempt at sarcasm . Just speaking about GenCon since it moved to Indy ,there have been over 100 historical(or semi historical) miniatures games a year there this year (once again ) 19 & One led the way ,but HMGS was there as was NOVAG and Ottowa redshirts and Able companie and I am sure I am missing some . YES, open gaming was used for miniatures . I would bet that there were more historical games put on at Gencon than there were at either Fall- in or Cold wars and then when you add in the semi historical …… |

How does asking how a convention where there were >100 historical games plus hundreds of others were played not to mention a lot of vendors make someone a troll? Snurl1 – How did you like MCC and what do you think of the Frostgrave gnolls? CriticalGeek – I look forward to reading what you saw once you recover. Hopefully you'll post it here or at l;east a link. |
Cyrus the Great | 10 Aug 2016 11:14 p.m. PST |
It IS sarcasm! Historical gamers have been a part of GenCon since its inception in Lake Geneva. All the things I described actually took place at GenCons. A guy displaying a German Panzer Division, Napoleonic, as well as WRG ancients games. Open gaming rooms for historical gaming and the HMGS Midwest has been there several times. |

[Q]CriticalGeek – I look forward to reading what you saw once you recover. Hopefully you'll post it here or at l;east a link.[/Q] I didn't actually go this year, too many things getting in the way. I was simply referencing last year in regards to how I felt after the convention energy-wise. I'd love to see what people thought about the historical games that were held. |

I was in the Aerodrome Ace Of Aces tournament there(and I even helped run one of the 3 tables for the game),my travel bud was in the FoW tournament run by Able Kompanie,Sailpower was there,Axis & Allies too. Our hotel, however, left much to be desired. It was a Red Roof in the Beech Grove section of greater Indy . Shorted on towels, damp carpeting and a musty smell(the AC still worked, thanks be).Ice machines broken, and our room was not cleaned due to some unknown pranker hanging the Do Not Disturb sign in front of our door while we were away. We checked out early . |

I had a great time at GenCon this year! |

Slightly down on attendance. Like all shows this year. You could actually park across the street from the show, at noon on saturday. I don't think I could put on a minis game at gen-con. No matter how good it is, you're just going to be a barnacle on the hull of GEN-CON!!!!!! It's so huge, everything is just swallowed up by the neverending mass of tables and people. |
