You voted for it – TMP link – so here it is!

This is for really small boardgames?

Another totally unnecessary board …

MajorB09 Aug 2016 10:59 a.m. PST

Don't forget to cross-post!!!

I disagree with the comment about it being useless. There was no other place to post boardgame thoughts. Sure, I could go to boardgame geek, but then I have to leave the TMP site, and perhaps some people who don't go to that site might be interested in what others might have to say.

Question is: Should this be one board OR a subset of each board?

Starmada, often played with miniatures, is a scifi boardgame.

Heroquest is a fantasy game.

Memoir 44, WWII

and so on.

So why should players of very different genre's all post in one place…. :)

I didn't say it was useless. I said it was unnecessary.

Yes, there is. The Boardgames board is here:

Precisely. That is indeed another way to look at it.

14Bore09 Aug 2016 12:10 p.m. PST

Oh it starts as one game board, then splits into two game boards then 4 diffrent game boards and so on Ad infinitum

MajorB--you are correct about the Boardgame board, and I wondered what the fuss was about.

I also wonder how many even know about the Plus boards.

BuckeyeBob09 Aug 2016 1:33 p.m. PST

I didn't know about the Plus Boards and started to look for them. I can't find out where they are.

On the Home Page, left hand side under Forums.

45thdiv09 Aug 2016 1:43 p.m. PST

I did not think to look in the plus boards, just the normal message boards. I'm sorry for missing that.

This new board should be over with that board.

The Beast Rampant09 Aug 2016 1:59 p.m. PST

No, the other way around.

tberry740309 Aug 2016 2:00 p.m. PST

TMP Plus is where members can talk as a wargaming community about non-wargaming topics.

…about non-wargaming topics.

This new board should be over with that board.

So… No.

MajorB09 Aug 2016 2:31 p.m. PST

TMP Plus is where members can talk as a wargaming community about non-wargaming topics.

Which makes it seem rather odd that the Boardgames board is there in the first place.

MajorB09 Aug 2016 2:32 p.m. PST

This also begs the question of what is a boardgame (with or without miniatures)?

I have played games where there are no minatures but the "board" is similar to one that you would play a wargame on …

kallman09 Aug 2016 2:48 p.m. PST

I'm planing on buying Zombiecide Black Plague mainly for the miniatures. However it looks like it may be a fun game so that is an extra win.

john lacour09 Aug 2016 9:43 p.m. PST

So was the "fantasy sports games" board I suggested forgotten?

normsmith09 Aug 2016 10:51 p.m. PST

I played the WW1 board game by Plastic Soldier Company last week. It is a Commands and Colors system and uses 15mm plastic miniatures from PSC, which are of the same quality as their normal line of plastics (i.e. Good and equal to 15mm metals).

The game is clearly a C and C game, but has enough differences to give it a WW1 theme. The board is also a couple of hexes deeper than the the typical C and C board.

We only played one game, so I am not sure yet as to where this sits in my list of preferences for C and C. There is a rule that allows the German player to get a medal (a flag) whenever they play a probe card, I'm not sure we got that right. I can see the merit, because it puts the pressure on Tommy to get over the top as the clock is ticking, but there are enough probe cards in the game that sometimes this could cause an early German win, without the German player showing any particular gaming skill.

All but two of the scenarios use the special rule. We need to investigate the game a little further.

It would be interesting to see tank units on this board and I can see the game being moved across to my Kallistra hex tiles if we ever get tanks into play.

If your terrain table is built on a board, are you not playing a board game when you use it?

Mute Bystander10 Aug 2016 10:18 a.m. PST

What defines the difference between Table Top Games and Board Games?

MajorB10 Aug 2016 11:17 a.m. PST

What defines the difference between Table Top Games and Board Games?

Presumably the one is played on a table top and the other is played on a board… Quite how you distinguish between a board and a table top beats me …

John Lacour--Not forgotten, I hope, but probably still standing in the Poll line.

Weasel11 Aug 2016 11:48 a.m. PST

I usually am against new boards but this one seemed like it was a good addition.

Old Contemptibles12 Aug 2016 2:26 p.m. PST

I have no idea what this board is about. I see no use for it. But oh well. Have fun in TMP oblivion. Send us a card from the Gulag.

Old Contemptibles12 Aug 2016 2:29 p.m. PST

In fact I believe his is totally made up and doesn't exist. Some one is playing us like a violin.

Old Contemptibles12 Aug 2016 2:29 p.m. PST

Oh and Bill, I did not vote for it.

normsmith12 Aug 2016 2:45 p.m. PST

You seem to be enjoying it more than the rest of us!

normsmith12 Aug 2016 2:50 p.m. PST

Yesterday we played Tank on Tank from Lock 'n load. It is a hex and counter game, but has large hexes and several maps, each being 11 wide by 9 deep, so similar to the C&C boards.

Anyway the system is simple but fun to play and visually very nice. as the map is relatively small, next week, I am using my Kallistra hex terrain (4" tiles) and will duplicate the map we used, terrain it and use miniatures. The vehicle stats are pretty straight forward so will be easy to remember. the game does not use markers, so visually it should run clean and the rules can be used as they are.

I have put a few system notes up on my web page LINK link

> Quite how you distinguish between a board and a table top beats me

I have trouble folding tables into their original box.

I guess I'll be hanging around here for the crossposts…
