Yesterday, I had another go at beating Fokker DVII's! We have come a cropper before, and I hoped I would do better this time?! To see what happened, please visit my blog at: link

I'm liking the red and white D.VII. Is that a repaint? |

Sorry, for a moment, I thought we were going to be talking about a new movie with Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller. |

I'm liking the red and white D.VII. Is that a repaint? Yes! I got the idea (and the card) from the Wings of Glory aerodrome link For the many similar models, just google image search 'Jasta 18 Fokker Dvii' ! I would use a Goering model as base for Lt Kandt, as I did, but the Sachsenburg yellow model is better for most conversions as it has the lozenge pattern already on the lower wing surfaces – they were not all red! Good luck if you try one! My Fokker get taken down by a DH2 most times . I note it was only a Fokker DR1 that got trashed by the (lucky) DH-2! What baffles me is that DR1's were used in mixed formations with DVII's! – how could the 'Flying Lawnmower' keep up, I keep asking! |

Because "cruise speed" on an inline is a lot slower than open throttle. Whereas a rotary engine tended to run flat out. Using the "throttles" of the period on a rotary was a pesky business involving cutting power to cylinders and/or fiddling with the fuel and air mixture. So a DVII would simply back off enough to keep pace with the slower DR1…. |
