For those that have bought from Shapeways, who are the best sculptors/manufacturers of modern ships in 1/2400 scale? Really need to fill some holes, primarily with modern European and Indian ship classes not done elsewhere.

I think it depends on the material you print it in and the individual model. afrodri's Type 022 FAC is fantastic in 1/2400 as is the Zumwalt DDG, but both are very spare designs. If I were getting a Zumwalt, I would get this one shapeways.com/product/JX2YUGG6B/uss-zumwalt-1-2400?optionId=59484646 as it has more detail. You can see them at:

.

afrodri's Singapore Tech. 400TEU and Generic Bulk Carrier are good, but rough due to the material I had it printed in.

James,

Thanks for the pics, nice blog as well, have it bookmarked. Have yet to do an order with Shapeways, mainly due to not knowing how the cheaper, grainy finished ships will come out, and the price of the better material (putting them at or above GHQ prices).

Need to bite the bullet soon, order some ships and aircraft in both material and see how they paint up.

I know what you mean, Cold Warrior. The quality of Resin/Metal miniatures are still so much better than what you can get from a 3D print and often far more economical. With my paint queue it is usually better to wait for GHQ/Viking Forge to come out with a model, than to get the 3D print.

Pericles,

With you there. Still I am tempted to at least try an order for myself and see. There are some ships I know will never get made (such as indigenous Indian designs), so may go that route and wait for the more popular choices.

I have bought several and here are my opinions:
Best quality and accurate designs – link
Next Best – shapeways.com/shops/objects
and third best – link
I have bought both WSF and FUD and I highly recommend the FUD for warships and WSF for merchantmen.
Just my opinion.
