China sent 230 vessels to sail near the Japanese owned Senkaku Islands, as they continue to try to push the envelope on their unfounded territorial claims in the region: link The majority were Chinese fishing vessels, but at least four were believed to have been armed Chinese vessels too. On a related note, China announced its first armed, combat air patrols over the South China Sea as well |

Looks like China has decided to escalate while they feel there will be no response due to the incipient election in US. Expect escalations right up to November. Notice their nationalistic moves like the giant "God of War" statue unveiling? Reads like a Tom Clancy novel. |

They'll continue through the first half of January, and perhaps beyond. It's a dangerous time. Hadn't heard about the statue, so will have to look that up. Things are heating up in the SCS as well, as you can see from my other posting. |
