Not being able to find any Spanish artillery in 20mm plastic I resorted on advice on TMP to try converting the Hat 1805 Prussian Artillery to Spanish. This involved moving the plumes, cutting off the buttons on the trouser legs and a bit of work on the cartridge cases and bicornes. No idea if the Prussian cannon in this set work for the Spanish and not perfect by a long shot. But close enough for my purposes!

Also, lacking any reference, I undertook to make up a few oxen drawn limbers for my Spanish, using some old Airfix French limbers with wheels from the cannon, Fimo and wire yokes and some Pegasus cattle I had kicking around. Here's those results:

I think you did a good job, like them

Very nice conversions, well done.

However, I think the oxen appear small compared to the guns and men.

They pass the "looks like Spanish artillery" test. Well done.

I think they look super!

Thanks, all. Yes, the oxen do look a bit small, especially with those big 12 pdr. Prussian guns in that set and wanting only two beasties to keep the limber base small! Small Spanish oxen, maybe?

Excellent depiction of the "hollow" on the wheels too, seldom done correctly.

Great work, love the oxen.

Looking really nice and they "feel" Spanish.

You should probably have used French guns instead of Prussian as the Spanish used the French Gribeauval system.

Great job! I don't think the French will we be able to tell the difference.

Hi Keith,

I may do that and pass these guns on to the Prussian player.

jhancock07 Aug 2016 8:43 a.m. PST

Bravo – well done! The gun swap for French 4- or 8-pounders would just be the icing on the cake.

well done – the oxen gun team is superb
