You may have forgotten this movie now, but it was launched with great fanfare on one of the major cable networks. Anthony Perkins returns to his greatest role!
The premise is that Norman Bates has been rehabilitated, released from the mental institution, and is running the Bates Motel again.
Then the killings begin. Is Norman back to his old tricks? Or is he the victim this time?
Vera Miles returns, playing once more the sister of Marion Crane – she is certain Norman will strike again. Meg Tilly plays the down-and-out waitress who befriends Norman at the diner. Robert Loggia is charming as Norman's psychiatrist. Dennis Franz is disappointing in a minor role.
This movie is surprisingly good, with a few twists along the way. Meg Tilly and Anthony Perkins reportedly hated each other on set, but they have an interesting chemistry on screen.
I give it 8 stars. (IMDB gives it 6.4)
