Last weekend Bob and I got together to playtest a mashup of ideas that we like from a couple rule sets. The rules are inspired by and based on Tim Wright's unpublished 'Sand and Blood' rules. However, we really like a lot of what's in 'A Good Dusting,' especially the concept of 'Pluck.' The scenario called for a mixed Western Powers force to investigate reports that a European Mission had been burned and the missionaries killed. The Western Powers force consisted of two 10 figure units of Russian infantry, a 5 figure unit of Cossacks, a Colt machine gun manned by U. S. Marines, and two 10 figure units of British sailors. Chinese forces consisted of three 10 figure units of Boxers, two 10 figure units of Tigermen, two 10 figure units of Kansu Braves, and two Krupp guns. The scenario ended in a bloody draw, with both sides having suffered heavy casualties. Most of the photos I took didn't turn out well but here are a few to give you an idea of the set-up. link |
