Like most ex-servicemen, several. I'm proudest of 'Sparker' though – its the nickname for my original Royal Navy Trade Group, Radio Operator (General)(strategic) – which required a very high level of skill and attention to detail when authenticating and safeguarding codes and the like – retaining that nickname once I became a commissioned officer worried me at first – I thought its use suggested the troops felt I was still a tradesman – but I was told it implied respect for my tradecraft and that I didn't forget my origins. I don't know about the first, but the latter is certainly true! |
