Which Confederate general do you feel is consistently undervalued?

Not sure about the Confederates, but I believe Sheridan at slightly over five feet is in the running for most overlooked Union general.

+1 Major B. Though Mr. Capp ensured he wasn't TOO overlooked.

General Malaise. I can't remember what battle he won in the War of Northern Aggression, but he has been overlooked. A lot.

Camille Armand Jules Marie, Prince de Polignac. Known to his compatriots as "General Polecat."

Cadmus Marcellus Wilcox: West Point class of 1846, did not progress in rank nearly as fast as many of his classmates, despite having taught tactics at WP. Commanded a brigade on the Peninsula, at 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville (where he blocked Sedgwick's corps from attacking Lee's rear), and Gettysburg; a division (finally) at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania and around Petersburg.

He was, incidentally, a groomsman at Grant's wedding.

Gordon and Cleburne are good choices.

Trajanus05 Aug 2016 2:03 p.m. PST

Definitely John B. Gordon, the ANV would have been hard put to get through 1864 without him.

D. H. Hill is my choice.

He was to much Non PC in that he spoke his mind and made few friends of his superiors. Yet his record based on performance was second to none.

He, in my opinion, would have been a better Corp commander then AP Hill or Early and would have been the best commander to replace Jackson.

Too bad he pissed too many people off.

D. H. Hill didn't do so well as a corps commander at Chickamauga!

Inkpaduta07 Aug 2016 10:40 a.m. PST

I would guess the one that was the shortest.

I like Nashville's nomination of McClellan. But on the same principle, what about Burnside
