Hi
I'd like to base some Reiters and demi lancers on 60mm bases. Would two on a base be too spaced out or should I go for 3 on a base knee to knee.
Would Reiters be in a dense or a more open formation to allow for all the caracole maneuvering.
Thanks folks.

IIRC, pistoliers were four per base under DBR, and lancers three per base.

Your choice. The Baroque rulebook shows variously 2 or 3 per base. I prefer 3. Formed up to charge at the trot these guys would be knee to knee.

As dense a formation as possible for the Reiters. They were famous for the close order of their units and the way they kept them together. (IIRC it seem to one eyewitness that they were glued to one another.)

Firing and caracoling to ride to the rear requires no extra space, all the movement is done outside the unit.

Strewth, I have 18 Reiters per base (36 if massed), guess you must be using big models!

I use 3 per base 60mm wide by 60mm deep.

28mm -sorry I haven't said that anywhere!!

For Impetus I put 5 on a base 12cm wide, as 2 on 6cm seem often too loose, while 3 are too cramped (unless they are known to ride in real dense formation).

Naturally that does not help for 6cm :-(

Not a bad idea -there is a lot of tinkering around that can be done.
