The hero of the movie is Jack (played by Jackie Chan), an archeologist who is suffering from realistic dreams of a past-life (?) as Chinese general Meng Yi (Qin dynasty).
The movie switches from its modern setting to "past life" sequences, as Jack seeks archeological success while his ancient counterpart struggles through love (with Korean princess OK-soo) and war.
The good news is that this film has some wonderful battle scenes. I have no idea how authentic they are! (Some are obviously of 'legendary' status.)
The bad news is that, like a lot of Jackie Chan movies, this film starts with an interesting premise then never lives up to the promise. Oh well, it's fun to watch… and there are a few surprises…
Hee-seon Kim is angelic as OK-soo, the tragic love interest – very easy to fall in love with.
Indian bombshell Mallika Sherawat has a brief role during Jack's adventure in the borderlands. She is both beautiful and great at the action scenes (particularly a fight on a conveyor belt).
There are a number of abbreviated subplots which make me wonder if the U.S. version is missing material.
The U.S. version has two so-quick-you'll-miss-them topless scenes.
I rate this at a 5 out of 10… fun to watch, a few amazing scenes.
