The French intervention in Mexico is fairly well known. Obviously the U.S. was preoccupied with its own Civil War at that time. I've actually Googled this and not come up with much, but was there any discussion of a U.S. move into Mexico between the Mexican-American War and the invasion prompted by Pancho Villa? |

In 1865 Sheridan was sent to Texas with 40,000 men as a message to the French that it was time to leave. That is the only formal mention. When Texas was a Republic there were frequent plans and the occasional incursion into Mexican Territory. |

Sheridan did send lots – and lots – of surplus Union gear to the Mexican armies fighting Maximillian; in fact, I think the entire Army of the North wore Union blue After that the US pretty much ignored Mexico although individual US citizens did a bit of meddling |

79thPA … ditto. Leavenworth Papers are always a good resource. No mention of John Wayne though? |

The old TV series Mackenzie's Raiders is available on YouTube: YouTube link OK, so it's not even remotely a well vetted historical account, but it might give you some scenario ideas. Grelber |

But the treaties between Mexico and USA allowed for pursuit of hostile Indians across the border – both ways. So Mackenzie's actions were really not interventions. Don't overlook Mr. Wilson's intervention at Vera Cruz. |
