"Throughout decades of ferocious rivalry, Iran and Saudi Arabia have, even while backing competing forces across the Middle East, generally maintained one red line: They wouldn't interfere directly in each other's domestic security. Policy makers in Riyadh and Tehran have known that backing militant groups among their rival's Shiite minorities in Saudi Arabia or Sunni minorities in Iran could lead to an escalation for which neither country is ready. But that tacit agreement might be unraveling. While no hard proof has been presented, in the past month Iran has ratcheted up claims that Saudi Arabia is supporting groups working to overthrow the government in Tehran or to destabilize the country, in particular opening a new front with Kurdish separatists. The Saudis, for their part, say Iran is increasing support for Shiite militants…" More here link Amicalement Armand |

Given the actions by Iran of late, can't really blame them. |

But that tacit agreement might be unraveling. Might be unraveling???!!! ru kidding me? It "unraveled" the moment the US invaded Iraq and deposed Saddam, thereby upsetting the sunni-shia balance of power in the ME and elevating Iran from a backwater to a "regional power." Thus empowered, Iran was able to prop up Assad in Syria (without direct Iranian and Hezbollah support Assad would have been toast years ago) and stir up trouble in Saudi Arabia's own backyard with the Houthi rebels. Uh oh, I bet Legion 4's going to give his "3 biggest mistakes" lecture again. |

No you have heard it to many times before … Or you could just stifle me … Regardless I do agree with this comment you made elevating Iran from a backwater to a "regional power." Thus empowered, Iran was able to prop up Assad in Syria (without direct Iranian and Hezbollah support Assad would have been toast years ago) and stir up trouble in Saudi Arabia's own backyard with the Houthi rebels If Iran and the Saudis go into a "Hot" War … It "might (?)" help to settle the whole Sunni – Shia conflict. Which really is the basis for much of what is going on in islamic world. But do it before the Persians get nucs, of course. Regardless, it would be very bloody, with a lot CD and probably a good number of war crimes, etc.,… Even more so than the Iran-Iraq War, a few decades back. |

Based on what happens in Africa when one tribe gets dominance over another, if either side takes power there will be a bloodbath like we haven't seen since the Great Leap Forward… |
