I've not posted anything new on my blog since 8th July and my hit count has consequently hovered around the 9,000 page views (in last 30 days) mark. This last week I noticed my blog counter going unexpectedly up: 11,000…… 12,000…… 13,000….. Sometimes I get a blip if a post I've done gets picked up and linked to a high turnover blog but, this morning when I looked my counter was over 15,000. That's a bit of a jump (the most hits I've ever had in 30 days was 17,000) so I looked up the stat breakdown. Oh, it's fishy alright. My top three sources for hits for this week, by country and in ascending order are roughly: USA 300, UK 450, Russia 5000. Do they really care about the SYW and my soldiers. I think not. Has this happened to anyone else? Any reason for it? James |

Hello James, I have seen similar activity over the past week or so…my stats have taken a big jump, hooray, however the activity has been almost exclusively from Russia… I'm not sure why, I'm sure there's a tech reason out there…or Putin really wants to know everything possible about the world of miniatures. Cheers, Stan |

Maybe they are practicing for something. |

Yup same here. I wish blogspot could filter out the noise from real hits as many stats are no longer a meaningful indicator of interest. |

Yup had the same here…its a shame really as I used to like looking at the stats. Having just passed the 500k mark (I was at 496k before the Russkies started)I suppose when I do hit 1 million it wont really count for much. Perhaps a better indicator for blog success is advertising revenues…my run rate is now nearly 10p per day. Just wish the Russkie engines would click on the adverts when they visit |

My first thought was that it might just be me, Olicanalad's Games, and the Russian Joe searching 'ol games' or something. Glad it's not that, that would be a blog on steroids. Providing it's not doing harm I'm not overly annoyed, just a bothered by having to check the math to get a handle on monthly hit count. That and, like ETS says, knowing in future that not all the hits were 'honestly got'. I'm getting close to the 750,000 mark and was looking forward to the big million too. |

Same thing as well, past 2 weeks or so blog hits up to about 2K a day, only a small percentage of it increased above usual baseline of about 300 hits/day related to recent posts, and mostly from Russia. At 22,000 hits for the month so far, at least 50% above previous all time high. |

Its those 30 000 deleted emails looking for a home, haha. (Let's ratchet up all that conspiracy stuff eh! ;) |

Same here. Stats that would hover around 8000 – 10000 a month are now up to 30000 – 35000. Most of the hits are from the US using Mackintosh and Chrome, although I have also seen hits from Russia in the last month. It's a pain. Tony See; link |

Question: Does this herald the beginning of the end for blogs? |

Question: Does this herald the beginning of the end for blogs? It might herald the end of 'hit counter' gadgets on blogs. |

I'm not sure, but I think that Blogger only counts Google account visitors in its hit counter. I've noticed that my Blogger visitors figures are about half of what they were when I used Sitemeter. For some reason, my Sitemeter gadget doesn't appear at the bottom of the page anymore, although I can go directly to Sitemeter and check out my stats. |

Perhaps the Russians have decided to go big on wargames instead of the Olympics… |

..and, yes…my blogs also getting lots of unexpected hits. |

"Question: Does this herald the beginning of the end for blogs?" No but I do agree that Blog counts are now useless. Tony |

The Russian spam is hitting all of my Blogs..seemingly proprotionate to the amount of Content…a mass of hits on the main blog and less and the other two. Maybe it´s time to consider a Wordpress blog. |

Don't think Blogs will end because of this but as has been said the counts are now useless. Perhaps google will be able to resolve this in time? |
