Was wondering if anyone still uses Chasepot and Needle Gun or Nach Paris (published in the Courier 80's) for Franco Prussian War. I was thinking of starting in 25's mounting them so I can possibly play BBB, Chasepot and Needle Gun and Nach Paris. Anyone else doing something like this? Any house rules, adaptations, suggestions?

The Jackson Gamers use C&N for our 25/28mm FPW armies, plus are just beginning with them for 1866 Austrian-Prussian War. We tend to use these rules almost straight out of the box, so to speak.

Some of these reports are old, but most of the figures are still around:

I used Nach Paris over a couple of decades ago, and liked them.

Jim, those battle reports were great. What figures can you find for 1866 Austrians?

I do my FPW game with a modified version of Chassepot and Needlegun. I did mine in 15mm, used 1" balsa wood squares, two figs per stand, kept bn. ratio to 6 French stands and 8 prussian. used 8 single figure stands for cav. one die for every two stands firing. artillery has 2 figs per stand, still rolling one die per fig. reduced weapon ranges but kept movement rates the same. loses a lot of the card driven suspense of C&N but plays very fast. has worked fine for convention games up to 8 players.

I cannot say enough for how great Chassepot & Needlegun is. its fun and playable. There is a fast play version I do not have or have played, but it is on my want list.

hope this helps.

For 1866 Austrians Old Glory 15s/19th Century Miniatures sells the Battle Honors range of 25/28mm Austrians for 1859 and 1866. Also I believe Northstar has Austrians for 1866.

I don't know for sure. But was "They Died For Glory" derived partly from "Chassepot and Needle Gun"?

TDFG is a great set of rules. Just had a game using them last Saturday. We have played them for years and we really like them. On of my favorite set of rules. Highly recommend.

"Chassepot and Needlegun" includes variants/playsheets for the following periods:

1846 Mexican American`
1854 Crimean
1859 Franco-Austrian
1866 Austro-Prussian

At Historicon, Mark Stevens was the GM for "Crossing the Iser" an Austro-Prussian game using the above rules. A great time was had by all.

according to my aim on standardised every period excepp WW2 and Moderm to an old schol approach friendly semi skirmish type of game with single casting…i'm considering, also for this period, to experiment with a FPW adaptation from TSATF rule..that i find on the archive of the dedicated yahoo group….unfortunatly they are tables for everything but no suggestions about the formations allowed to the different units…

Battle Honors has 25mm Austrians in 1859 white coats and 1866 grey overcoats. These are fine figures that go well with the Foundry 1870 Prussians. North Star has larger Austrians in overcoat--also quite nice.

Does anyone make 25mm mounted command for the French or Prussians? Haven't been able to find any under Foundry or Battle Honors.

mashrewba29 Jul 2016 12:43 p.m. PST

Foundry did make a mounted commander for both French and Prussians -they could probably dig one out if you contact them.I got mine on EBay.
The old Minifigs 'S' range is still available if you want a total 25mm experience!!

Foundry still makes mounted FP officers along with several other manufactures. Converting ACW to accurate mounted French is easy, particularly from Old Glory range. We have well over 1700 FPW 28mm figures and many different mounted officers. Our group uses my rules.
