Since last Friday I have begun painting my Seleucid collection which will hopefully become a formidable opponent for the consular army. At the blog are photos and a brief text. link By the end of the week I should have photos of the completed mounted elements. Cheers, |

Unbelievable system errors. First submission "No ID found", now it is duplicated. |

What figures are they? That's a lot of figures! |

These are Old Glory 15s from the Successor listings. Phalangites wear trousers, cataphract have the correct harness and thorakites are in chain-mail. Not pictured and must be painted are xystophoros cavalry that will serve as command elements. Also not pictured but painted are 18 elements of Galatian warband, Cretan archers and slingers. |

I've steered away from OG15s because they didn't have the pikes in hand. You have to add them. For me, it's a nightmare unless the hand can be drilled and the pike can be put in the socket. Or to put it another way, I can't keep a spear/pike glued in place to save my life! |

I have a similar dislike of adding pikes, but the position of the hands made this an easy task. I do not drill holes, but do use needle nose pliers to gradually squeeze the left fist into a cupped hand. The right hand positioned near the waist is lifted just enough to hold the spear down. You have in essence three contact spots, the base and both hands which are enough to keep the pike in place. Cleaning, gluing weapons, howdahs, chariots and basing before undercoating took two afternoons or the entire "Sword of Destiny" audio book (Witcher) |

The only alternative is cast pikes and in a short time it will look like a unit of "whip men" instead of pike men and eventually they will be broken. Choose your poison. Regards Russ Dunaway |

Good looking army. I'm collecting one too, using TSS/QRF figures, though that project is a ways down the line… Damon. |

Once again I ask, how are cast pikes suppose to survive any amount of handling and gaming? Of course the pike could be cast much thicker, which would then bring the chorus of "these are as big as telephone poles" crowd out? I do not know of any real alternative then the separate wire being used as a pike. regards Russ Dunaway |
