Anyone play Game of Thrones board game 2nd edition or know of any reviews of the game? It looks like a Risk type of game but more complicated. Just wondering if it is any good. Mixed reviews posted on amazon. I'm thinking some of the negative reviews may be from people who like the TV series but were a little overwhelmed with the complexity of the game. Thinking I might get better reviews on a sight with people who enjoy games. Thanks. |

It can be a good game. Best with 4+players. Components and board are nice. Timing your card assets, ships and armies are crucial. With a chain of ships in each sea zone you can do some strategic end runs. No Taegaryans just the Westeros continent. And….winter is coming… |

It's not like Risk. The core mechanics are based on Diplomacy, but with a lot of extra stuff added on. It's only of moderate complexity, if you are an experienced gamer. |

Ivan is correct. And it's a great game. Very popular with my group. Low randomness, high strategy, very thematic. |

Ah. Diplomacy. So, back stabbing is required? |

EXTREMELY good game. Not Risk-like at all, as Ivan DBA says much closer to Diplomacy in rules and style. The game is moderate complexity and does a good job of capturing the negotiations and betrayal of the setting. It's up in my personal top 10 board games I own. -Will |

And well timed back stabbing is not REQUIRED but often is what victory rests on. :) -Will |

Good game that would be better if you give a movement rate of two spaces instead of one. Siege rules are a bit manky. Defense while being in a fortified space makes you MORE likely to lose as your opponent can then use very cost effective siege engines offensively and there is no benefit for the defender from being in the fortified space. Kinda counter intuitive. |

back stabbing is required? Well it would not be Games of Thrones without that aspect. 2nd Edition fixed quite a few issues from the 1st Edition. Board Game Geek has it as the 55th best game. link So it is a good game. |

It's not a good fit for solo play. I have played it a bit solo, mostly to learn the rules. But some mechanics require simultaneous blind choices by two or more players… And the core dynamic of the game is intrigue between multiple players. I could see using the board as the map for a solo campaign, but the game as written is really multiplayer. |
